Shekarau Declares Intention To Run For President

A former Governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau, has informed members of the Peoples Democratic Party of his decision to seek the party’s flag in the next presidential election.
Former Kano State governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, has declared his intention to contest for the presidency in 2019 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Shekarau, who was also a former Minister of Education, has already notified the leadership of the PDP of his desire to contest for the highest position in the land.

It was gathered that Shekarau used the opportunity of Tuesday's meeting of the party's National Executive Council (NEC) meeting to inform party leaders of his aspiration to lead the country in 2019.

According to the Shekarau’s spokesman, Sule Ya’u Sule, Shekarau has also communicated his political ambition to various elders, community leaders, opinion leaders, political associates and religious leaders regardless of their ethnic and party affiliations.

Sule said the secrecy hitherto surrounding his principal’s ambition was to make room for due process in informing the relevant stakeholders before making it public.

“Mallam Shekarau deliberately refused to make his ambition public because he does not want the relevant stakeholders to read it for the first time on the pages of newspapers. He first notified them before making it public. He is now making necessary consultations,” he said.

Shekarau becomes the third person to express his desire to contest for the presidency on the platform of the PDP following declarations by Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state and former governor of Jigawa state, Sule Lamido.

The party has zoned the presidency to the North.

This is not the first time that Shekarau will be eyeing the presidency. He was the presidential candidate of the All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP) in the 2011 presidential election.

Shekarau has made a difference

For eight years he served as Kano State Governor, he was calling the sots in Kano State, Nigeria most populous state, Kano is ideally the melting pot of Nigeria's social, economic and political activities. It is a really point of sorts for Nigerians from all corners of the country. Indeed, Kano is a converging spot for Nigerians and others in regard to culture, language and beliefs. Shekarau embraced all and took every body in to confidence, He implemented policies which united the people, brought the minorities in to government and fostered peaceful co-existence.

This great son of Kano and pan-Nigerian came into politics not to be served but to serve, to him, the Nigerian enterprise needs commitment and single-minded dedication. It needs those at the helm of affairs to be service-driven, selfless, patriotic and altruistic.

Shekarau dreams of a Nigeria where there will be improvement in power supply, improvement in infrastructure, improvement in education , self-reliance in food production and a robust and transparent  financial system. Mallam Shekarau also envisages a Nigeria society in which the rule of law, security, hope, integrity and dignity will prevail.

Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau came to power as Kano State Governor in 2003 and of course, he did this with the abiding support of the good people of Kano. Again in alliance and partnership with the loving people of Kano, Shekarau broke the jinx of a single term for elected Governors in Kano State because he also swept the polls in 2007, making a wholesome endorsement of his governance and policies in the state.

In no distant time, this son of a policeman transformed into apolitical juggernaut of sorts. His visionary leadership, selfless service, uncanny ability to combine men and materials to produce results, transparency, humility, broad mindedness, he gave attention to some patriots outside Kano State.
Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau is hoped to be given the mandate to lead his great party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the next presidential elections 2019 in the country.
